The figty0"hirq yg§lar meeting was called to order by the chairman at 7:50 PM 07-Ge- Tree Warden's office. 2, NJmbeTs_Erjqent: Messrs. Jordan, Chepulis$ Demers, Lafordo Roberts Root and Oz. Kittredge. 3o hes bors Absent: Kro Lewis. 4. Minutes: The minutes of the meeting of 19 -February 1968 were approved as submitted. 5. Conservation Fund: The 1968 Annual Town Neeting of 16 March 1968 voted affirmatively toprovide $5000 for the establishment of a Conservation Fund, Cfficial verification of the action will be sent to the Commission by the Town Clerk. The Commission voted to deposit the money in a special notice account to earn a higher rate of interest. A vote of thand, was extended to firs. k I ittredge for preparing a publicity article and to Messrs, Roberts and Chapulis for their vocal support of the Commission's article at Town Meeting. The need of a plan of action was discussed. Also, means and methods of putting the plan into action must be investigated and determination made of how to appropriately use the money in the fund. The timing shoi)ld be such so as to obtain matching funds. The plan should include items such as the "old town center", flood plainsp riversy etc* With respect to the avail- ability of land adjoining the now course of the Shawsheen River Mrs. Kittredge will prepare a list of owners of the lands. 6, Hatch Act: An application was received from 11cClayts Carden Center on Turn- Pike Street for the filling in of some wetland at the site. Messrs. Lafond3 Root and Roberts will view the areaandreport the results of their investi- gation before a decision is made. 7. M.A.C.C.: it was noted that the annual does to the M.A.C .C. may now be sent. 8* Library: Upon recommendation by br. hbot it was voted to purchase the book, 1110filderness and the American Mind"$ by Roderick Nash) Yale University Press, 10. 0, for the conservation reference section of the Stevens Vemorial. library. ANDOVER, MASS. 01845 "44 APRION O..V CPU Report No. 53 cont'd. 9, Trails: Mrs, Kittredge proposed the desirability of establishing nature and hiking trails as a cooperative venture of the Conservation Commissiono Planning Board and North Andovnr Improvement Society, The chairman is to write to the North Andover Improvement Society inviting a representative to meet with the Commission at its April meeting to discuss the subject. 10.
