ATTENDANCE: The following were present: Thomas Licciardello, Chairman; Rosemary Connelly Smedile, James Xenakis; Daniel P. Lanen; Mark J.T. Caggiano; Mark Rees, Town Manager; Ray Santilli, Assistant Town Manager. COMMUNICATIONS,ANNOUNCEMENTS, AND PUBLIC COMMENT: Since the Board of Selectmen can only control 1/3 of the budget, they are reaching out to the School Committee with an Olive Branch with a possible solution as to how to come up with $1.2 million to save teaching positions. OLD BUSINESS: FY07 Budget Selectman Rosemary Smedile suggested writing a letter to the School Committee asking them to send a formal letter to the six School Department Unions to reopen collective bargaining for the specific purpose of reassessing the wage increases from 7%to 3.5% for FY07 and FY08 and also to discuss increasing the employee's health insurance contribution rate to 25% for HMO Blue plans. This could roughly save $1.295,158 million over the year and could maintain teaching positions. Rosemary Smedile made a MOTION, seconded by James Xenakis, to send the letter to the School Committee and make this letter public to the press, the Finance Committee and the PTO's. Vote approved 5-0. ADJOURNMENT: Rosemary Smedile made a MOTION, seconded by Mark Caggiano, to adjourn the meeting at 4:30 PM. Vote approved 5-0. Adele J. Johnson Administrative Secretary James M. Xenakis, Clerk of the Board
