In,the main building area, it is "the sprinkler.pipe located in cold attic spaces above the insulation layer that could freeze, not the rooms located on the 4th floor, which are typically kept warm. = Second type of system is a wet system protecting all remaining areas including Residential rooms, storage, and utility `rooms, all corridors and stairwells. The wet system also protects the kitchen'- and dinning area and the laundry/ linen rooms. Both systems start. in the ,first floor water room and are -fed off the same water supply from the street. The'main control valves and flow switches are also located here. The wet system is fed through a 6" main pipe to each of the stairwells. The 6" feed main connects to a standpipe, which carries the water- up to the remaining floors. Each floor" sprinklers are fed off this standpipe through a set.of "zone control". Each floor has (2) separate zone controls located in center stairwell which can be isolated from the, other floors. Each set of zone controls has a control valve and a water flow switch,_ which senses water flow. The sprinkler pipe runs -from- these fromthese zone controls and feeds- the sprinkler heads. Please see system drawings for specific coverage- areas Operationally, each sprinkler head actives in isolation. If heat reaches a certain temperature, in most case, 155 degrees Fahrenheit, the special liquid in each sprinkler head expands, breaking the glass vile -housing 'it. This activates that .sprinkler head only and allows, the water .(wet, system) or air (dry, system) to flow through and out onto the source of heat. The wet riser in the first floor water- room senses this water flow as do the zone controls, and sends 'a signal to the FACP, triggering alarms to activate. P' � �'E CTION R R� C 0 INC.. continues to flow through the activated sprinkler head until the main valve is closed on the wet riser located in first floor water room or the zone control valves in the center stairwell for that floor is closed. The dry system, on the other hand, senses the loss of air pressure caused by sprinkler head activation.' This causes a signal to be sent to the FACR, and it causes the dry pipe -valve on the dry pipe valve there to open, slowing the water to follow the. escaping air through the activated sprinkler head. There _is also, a valve on the dry, system riser that can be closed stop the flow of water.
