Meeting Minutes for February 6, 2018 North Andover Sustainability Committee

a. Spoke about the grant that Joanna is working toward for $$ for schools recycling
program
i. Milk cartons – rinsing is not an issue, but will be
ii. No caps on cartons
iii. Recycling IQ – graphic material
iv. DEP is willing to give you money for outreach to educate residents on recycling
rules

v. 6 grade at middle school and Thompson will pilot food rescue probably in early
March.
vi. Talked about getting data points for trash weight savings
b. Also spoke about a Recycling Dividends Program (RDP) Points Based System where each
town has to accomplish certain tasks and deliverables to earn points. Each point is
$1300. Must earn a minimum of 8 points
i. Talked about outreach activities needed to earn a point
ii. Subsidized home compost bins, reciprocal HHW arrangement (open to non-
residents).
iii. Table (showing which towns participate) needs to be on the DPW website
iv. Have to recycling at least 6 items.
v. Add textiles, books, and fire extinguishers
