Meeting Minutes for August 8, 2018 North Andover Sustainability Committee

k. Julia Greene – MDEP – works with MetroWest communities on how to access funding
and bring recycling and solid waste reduction into communities
2. Andy will e-mail meeting minutes to Chris McClure
3. Julia Greene – took over Carolyn at Mass DEP
a. No news is good news regarding our grant application status
b. Julia spoke about the Recycling Dividends Program
c. Joanna gave a recap of the two grants we applied for to procure funds for school
recycling
d. Julia gave us ideas for things to do to educate residents about recycling
e. The RDP points will be updated and Julia offered to come back to our meeting and go
through the requirements so we can apply for more points for next year.

4. Artisan Market – Sunday, August 19
a. Shoba and Jessica and Alvin are available
b. Devin is available to help
c. Shoba and Joanna will set up
5. Earth Machine – Compost Bins
a. We may have to shop for an alternate supplier because animals are able to chew
through the current ones
6. Committee Funds / Account Update
7. Mercury Recovery Program
a. Bryan e-mailed but hasn’t heard back
b. Shoba will reach out to five nursing homes / assisted living
8. Madhu made a suggestion to have a paper shredding event once or twice a year?
9. NASC promotion and marketing
a. We have some events coming up that may get us some $$
b. Raffle at Artisan Market
c. Textile Recycling
10. Octoberfest at the Town Common
a. Joanna has a sponser lined up for the next set of bags
b. Shoba said that two sponsers can fit on the bag
c. Shoba passed out examples of bags
11. Recruitment
12. Andy/Joanna will check the e-mail link on Town website to ensure it is still working
13. Vish made a presentation about reduction of electricity
a. We should target young people by bringing solar panels down to ground level
14. New Business was tabled
