HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-03-24 Board of Selectmen Executive Minutes ^ BOARD OF SELECTMEN EXECUTIVE MINUTES MARCH 24,2003 EXECUTIVE SESSION: The Executive Session convened at 7 :00 P.M. ATTENDANCE: The following were present: Rosemary Smedile, Chairman; James Xenakis; Wendy Wakeman; Donald Stewart; Mark J.T. Caggiano; Mark Rees, Town Manager; Ray Santilli, Assistant Town Manager. The Board of Selectmen was individually polled and each voted unanimously to move into Executive Session. Vote approved 5-0. Negotiations with Non-union employees The Town Manager provided additional information regarding the Police Chief and Fire Deputy compensation plans and he recommended that the Board approve the adjustments in compensation be retroactive as of July 1, 2002. The adjustment for the Police Chief would be a$6,200 increase and for the Fire Deputy would be an increase of$4,090. Mark Caggiano made a MOTION, seconded by Wendy Wakeman, to approve a retroactive adjustment to compensation plans for the Police Chief and Fire Deputy to July 1, 2002. Vote approved 5-0. Town Manager's Salary Adjustment for FY03 The Town Manager asked the Board to consider giving him a 3% increase retroactive to July 1, 2002 along with other'by-law'employees. Wendy Wakeman made a MOTION, seconded by Mark Caggiano to approve a 3% increase for the Town Manager retroactive to July 1, 2002. ^ He also suggested that the Board nominated a subcommittee to negotiate a new contract with him in the near future since his current contract will expire on September 5, 2003. Donald Stewart made a MOTION, seconded by Mark Caggiano to nominate Selectman Wakeman and Xenakis as sub-committee to negotiate a new contract with the Town Manager. Donald Stewart AMENDED the MOTION, seconded by Mark Caggiano to nominate Selectman Wakeman and Smedile as subcommittee to negotiate a new contract with the Town Manager. Bill McEvoy The Town Manager suggested that the Board issue a proclamation making March 29, 2003, Bill McEvoy Day and rename Chadwick Park to Bill McEvoy Park. In order to officially implement these actions, but still provide for some aspect of a surprise, the plan is for the Board to hold a public meeting, properly posted 48 hours in advance, the night of the dinner and at the site of the function. Carol White Retirement Party Carol White,an employee in the Tax office will be retiring in April. On Wednesday,April 2, a retirement party will be held at the Roma and the Board of Selectmen is invited to attend.
