HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-03-24 Board of Selectmen Executive Minutes BOARD OF SELECTMEN EXECUTIVE MINUTES MARCH 24, 2008 EXECUTIVE SESSION: The Executive Session convened at 7:00 P.M. ATTENDANCE: The following were present: James Xenakis Chairman; Thomas Licciardello; Daniel P. Lanen; Mark J.T. Caggiano; Rosemary Connelly Smedile, Mark Rees, Town Manager; Ray Santilli, Assistant Town Manager. The Board of Selectmen was individually polled and each voted to move into Executive Session. Vote approved 5-0. Bargaining with Non-union employees The Board's sub-committee, the Town Manager and the Assistant Town Manager met with interim Fire Chief William Martineau to negotiate terms of employment. William Martineau stated that he did not want an employment contract; he wanted an indemnification clause. The recommendation is that his starting salary will be$101,000 and upon successful completion of his six- month probation period It will be increased to$103,942, the maximum of his pay grade with an indemnification language clause the same as provided to the Town Manager. Subject to the provisions of the Town's personnel bylaw requiring a public hearing prior to modifying the personnel rules and regulations, he will be granted"holiday pay"equivalent to one-day's pay for 12 holidays or approximately$4,600. Holiday pay is a benefit currently provided to the Police Chief and other Fire Chiefs in our comparison group. Mark Caggiano made a MOTION, seconded by Thomas Licciardello, to approve the terms of employment for Fire Chief Martineau and to send a formal letter signed by the Board of Selectmen. Vote approved 5-0. ADJOURNMENT: Mark Caggiano made a MOTION, seconded by Rosemary Smedile, to move out of Executive Session. Vote approved 5-0. Respectfully submitted, Adele J.
