Sustainability Committee
Meeting Minutes for September 11, 2018 North Andover Sustainability Committee
Location: DPW
1. Attendees:

2. Joanna gave everyone a summary of last Selectman meeting where they accepted the grant
from the DEP. Selectman acknowledged that grant funds are intended for school recycling
initiative.
3. Bryan reminded everyone that you can sign up for e-mail alerts/committee meeting agendas on
the Town website.
4. Jessica spoke informally with Chris Nobile and Richard V. and mentioned that since our
committee promotes and hands out pink textile bags, perhaps we should share in a portion of
the curbside pink bag proceeds.
5. Sima Gupte joined the meeting, and she's interested in joining the committee
6. Bryan is having trouble reaching Pat Scanlon at Wheelabrator.
7. Revenue ideas: promote pink bags more
8. Jim Stanford can join us if we meet on Tuesdays at 7p, so we will try to meet then for the next
few meetings. October 2 d at 7pm. Bryan will see if the Town Hall is available.
9. Quarterly newsletter that comes out with water bills: we should try to have an article or e-mail
to send on a monthly basis to our mailing list
10. Sponsors for reusable bags
11. Andy will print out more of the flyers for the
12. September 29t, is the Fall Festival on the common.
a. Shoba sent a message to Dawn of the Merchants Association asking if we can participate
and set up our booth at the festival
13. Bryan mentioned that he spoke with Chris McClure about getting everyone a town e-mail
address so we can set up a Gmail shared drive.
14. Compost update: We've sold through our first 20, and we have more on order
a. Joanna looked into pricing for a more premium composter. They would be about$170
15. Jessica mentioned that she'd like to see the committee get more involved with Roots
composting
16. Sima talked about how she has started paper,glass, aluminum cans, plastic recycling at Andover
High School.
17. Joanna is going to invite Charles Anderson,teacher at NAHS, to a meeting to discuss recycling at
the high school.
18. New Business
a. Everyone liked the idea of having a movie screening at Stevens Memorial
19. Vishvesh showed everyone the prototype of his STEM bench.
