NORTH ANDOVER HISTORICAL
COMMISSION
Minutes of March 12, 2018
Meeting
NOT PRESENT: Pat Long-C.J. Gangi - Nick Pelletier
I. POSSIBLE FUTURE OF THE FORMER PRINT/ TEXTILE MUSEUM at 800 Mass.
Ave. in the Old Center - Presented by Stan Limpert, Diane Huster, and Tom
Zarohuiko from the North Andover Historical Society.
A. Stan Limpert, President of the Historical Society, gave an overview of the history of
the building which is owned by the Historical Society
1. The building is on a prime location, with 1.7 acres of land, but has had
longstanding problems relating to heating, ventilation, and mold.
2.Current zoning in the Old Center District allows for residential,
church, or museum usage.
3.The zoning could perhaps be changed to B1 which is the lowest
commercial usage.
4.The Historical Society hopes to find a tenant who would be willing
to "fix" the building problems at their own cost.
5. Estimates of needed work are in the $2,000,000 range
6.. The North Andover Planning Board has recently toured the
building.
7.There have been parties who have expressed interest in the
building
8. The Town Manager, Assistant Manager, and Town Planner also
toured the building recently.
9. There has been some mention of converting the building into
condos.
B. Tom Zarohuiko stated that any potential tenant willing to invest in the
building would probably require a long-term lease.
C. There was a discussion about what impact the change to B1 zoning might
have on the Old Center District.
1. Other buildings in the Old Center (that need a new future) such
as the Grange and the Masonic Lodge were
mentioned.
D. In response to a question Mr. Limpert reiterated that the Historical Society wants to
maintain ownership of the museum building and land.
II. NORTH PARISH CELL PHONE PROJECT - Chairman Kathleen Szyska said she
had not heard from Keith Wentzel about any recent progress on this projected project.
!!!. OLD BURYING GROUND -Mr. McGregor has contacted Ray Santilli about the
installation of the gate. Hopefully that work will be done this spring.
IV. NORTH ANDOVER'S MASTER PLAN - Carol Majahad mentioned a topic related to
the Master Plan....What is the purpose of the Old Center in the 21st century?
V. The Anne Bradstreet Kindergarten and Early Childhood Center has been selected
by the School Committee as the official name of the kindergarten and early childhood
center located next to the Atkinson School.

BE AT 7PM. APRIL 9,2018, IN TOWN HALL.
