The Applicant proposes to construct a recreational 14 complex including athletic fields, tennis courts, picnic areas and associated parking areas, walkways and 15 emergency/maintenance access paths. 16 1.7 Jacob Murray, Waterfield Design Group: Provided a description of the lighting at Duane Stadium based on 18 information provided by MUSCO Sports Lighting, the manufacturer who Waterfield has worked with on the 1.9 lighting design for the Recreation Complex. The purpose of the meeting was to view the lighting of the athletic 20 field which is similar in some ways to the Recreation Complex proposal, but different in many ways. 21 Both light towers along the roadway side of Duane Stadium had lights faced towards the sidewalk and 22 parking area to provide light in these areas, purposely spilling light around. They also have wall-pack 23 lighting on the back side of the stands for the purposes of lighting that area. In both cases the field 24 lighting proposed for the Recreation Complex will not be used for these purposes. Lighting at the ends of 25 the fields were also illuminated more than what is proposed at the Recreation Complex, 26 The stadium has ambient light from the dorms, the adjacent recreation building, parking lot lights, plaza 27 and pathway lights, and lights underneath the spectator stands, these lights were adding significant 28 illumination of the surrounding areas adjacent to the field. 29 • The abutters asked question regarding the illumination of the proposed lighting, hours when the lighting 30 would be on, control of the lighting, and height of the light poles. 31 • Waterfield explained that the lighting for the softball field is proposed at 60' .and lighting on the main turf 32 field.are 80';the athletic field lighting installed at Duane Stadium has 80' high poles. The bank of lights 33 on the Eight poles proposed for the Recreation Complex is the same. 34 • The Planning Board did not answer questions as this was a site visit, but Waterfield did respond to some 35 questions. 36 + With regard to the lighting in the area of the softball field near the abutters, the proposed pedestrian lights 37 are approximately 8'— 15' high. The pedestrian lighting is for general lighting for safety and security. The 38 pedestrian lights proposed for the Recreation.Complex is more of a shoebox design, but are a similar 39 height. 40 41 Meeting Materials: Agenda 2/27/2019 site visit 1 42 J 1 i
