Meeting Minutes for March 5, 2019 North Andover Sustainability Committee

1. Attendees:

3. Approval of Minutes
4. School Recycling Grant
a. Joanna has begun ordering the bins and will meet with Jim Stanford soon to discuss the
details for the kickoff of food recycling.
b. Thompson and Middle School will be the first two schools to roll out the program.
c. Shoba mentioned that we should have information about school recycling on the North
Andover Public Schools website and also the North Andover Patch website, North
Andover Citizen, and Wicked.Local.Com
d. Alvin mentioned that we could also include publicity for Roots,
e. Sebastian talked about how he has provided education seminars re: composting.
f. Sebastian noted that it may be a good idea to host an event where parents could come
and see some of the soil that gets produced from compost.
5. Sebastian talked about being a local community composter
a. All compost is processed in Lowell and returned to local businesses and residents
b. Partnering with another Offbeat Recycling? composter in Lowell to cover Merrimack
Valley
c. They have created a community composting site for Lawrence.
d. Also talked about community 64-gallon bins where Lawrence residents.
e. You can look for a host, and then maybe pilot a program with 25 people or so.
6. We talked about doing a showing of Wasted at the Library. Jessica will work with Sebastian on
the screening.

8. Town Wide Cleanup is April 28.
9. Rain Barrels. Great American Rain Barrel will set up barrels at locations
10. Shoba will sign us up for the Sheep Shearing and Artisan Market
11. Andy will work on the YMCA

16. We need an easy flyer. Recycle Smart website information.
17. Madhu provided an update on Vish’s project. School gave him a three-month extension and two
people are helping him with the interactive workbench.
