HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-10-31 Youth and Recreation Council Minutes North Andover Youth & Recreation Services Date: 10/31/2019 Youth Council Meeting Minutes Time: 8:00am-9:00am Attendance: A. Firmin, P. Breen,J. Sideri, (Dressed for the occasion) R. Gorman, D.Tetrault, D. Moore, L. Allen, R. Keane Absent: H. Williams,T. Holland, K. Driscoll 1. Andrew Firmin, new Chair of the Council, started the meeting with the Approval of the September minutes. Rick opened the meeting by introducing Lauren Sanford,the new adventure recreation coordinator. Lauren discussed the new activities she is implementing, (hikes to Weir Hill, Mountain Biking, Kayaking,triathlon, etc. She is also in charge of the Adventure Leadership program for High School kids and preparing them to be mentors and leaders. A camping trip is being planned. Over 120 kids are partaking in this year's high school leadership programs. 2. Rick mentioned that the NAYRS Joseph N Hermann Grant was approved, and was appreciative. The approval process has changed from September until May. Andrew will be sending a thank-you note to the Joseph N Hermann board. 3. Directors Report:The following was highlighted: 498 Members, 27 Scholarship -Fall programs at 98%capacity and were a major success -Plans to collaborate with Andover/North Andover YMCA-Vote approved to continue discussions, with Dual memberships being discussed -Town Manager toured the YC-great visit -Podcasts are well received -Clapboard work on the back of building has been approved to start work in November -New CORI policy put into place 4. Thanksgiving and Holiday Drive-A successful "Turn Key" operation. Over 80 families will be receiving Turkeys and over 300 kids will be receiving Christmas presents 5. Board Member Roles/Responsibilities: Questionnaire going to be sent out to board members that will ask for skills/interests. A historical perspective of the board's history will be included. 6. Community Resources Guide will be sent to every NA resident about the towns services 7. Plans for a Youth Center Fire Drill Lively discussion about the safety of the kids. Fire Drill procedures in play with NA Fire Dept. Ex: Columbia Gas Explosion-evacuation went very well Staff is up to date with the latest emergency disaster training through town policies Youth Center cameras on display at the NA police station 8.
