HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-01-23 Board of Selectmen Minutes1'08 January 23, 1961 The Board of Selectmen met on this date at 7:30 p.m. for their regular meeting, with all members present and Chairman Finck presiding. HEARING: TREE REMOVAL A hearing was held on the petition of Mr. John Shea, Elmcrest Estates, for the removal of two trees on Main Street. Mr. Connors, Tree Warden, stated that the trees are in the middle of a new street and recommended their removal. Mr. Sutcliff made a motion to grant the removal of the trees, seconded by Mr. Finneran and voted unanimously. OSGOOD STREET: Lighting Survey Upon the motion of Mr. Finneran. seconded by Mr. Sutcliffe and vmted unani- mously, a request for another survey for one light, in the vicinity of Chepulis, 1018 Osgood St., will be made to the Merrimack-Essex Elec. Co. MERRIMACK-ESSEX ELECTRIC COMPANY A recommendation was received from the Merrimack-Essex Electric Company for the installation cf one light at 55 Dana Street. Mr. Sutcliffe made a motion to approve the installation, seconded by Mr. Finneran and voted unanimously. JOINT POLE LOCATION P~z'i'I~ON: Mr. Sutcliffe made a motion to set a hearing date of February 6, 1961 at 7:30 p.m. for a pole location at Elmwood St., opposite MaB.lin Street; Mr. Finneran seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous. REPORT: A letter and pamphlets Were received from the Greater Boston Economic. Study Committee. Mr. Finneran made a motion to forward the material to the Planning Board, since the information contained therein would be of interest to that board. Mr. Sutcliffe seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous. DEPT. OF pU~LTC UTILITIES: A letter was read relative to the starting time of the Boston & Maine 8:05 a.m. train. Chairman Finck stated that accordi~E to the newspapers, the matter'.has been. taken care of. ARTICLES FOR WARRANT: The Board will insertlin the warrant an article for the sum of $1,500.00 for a Town Fourth of July Celebration an~ an article for .the sum of $5,000.00 for'a survey, report, study, etc. in connection, with the erection of a new fire statzon in the vicinity of the Old Center. BROTHERHOOD 1~EEK: A letter .was read from the National Conference of Christians & Jews, Inc. .. - Mr. Sutcliffe made a motion to appoint John J. Lyons, Town Clerk, Chairman pf Brotherhood Week, seconded by Mr. Finneran and voted unanimously. Also that Brotherhood Week be proclaimed as presented to the Board. ~.~SS. A 'letter was received Mr. R. Ashton Smith with a copy of the latest Supplement to Bulletin F from the Association of Town Fimence Committees. DP~NG' OF JUROR: The name of Pauline Blood, 206 Osgoed Street, was drawn by Mr. Sutcliffe for Smperior Criminal'~Court in Salem, February 20~ 1961. MASS. CIVIL DEFENSE: A pamphlet about Underground State Control Center was read, however, this was printed under the former Governor and probably would not apply now. CLOSE WARRANT: Chairman Finck announced that the annual town warrant will close January 30, 1961. Upon motion of Mr. Sutcliffe, seconded by Mr. Finneran, and vote~ unanimously. the meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
