Ail members were present with Chairman Finneran presiding. PLA~R0~ND AT AIRPORT: Attorney' Caffrey, Secretary of the Airport Commission, informed the Board that the State's Civil A~ronautic Agency has approved the sale of airport land owned by the City of Lawrence to the tcwn. The Town of Morth ~ndcver wishes to purchase the lend for a playgr?und, off upper Sutton Street. Federal CAA approval is now' needed and Attorney Caffrey expexts to hear from them in the very near future. PUBLIC TELEPHONE The New England Tel. & Tel. Company represented by the Lawrence Manager, Mr. Robinson, notified the Board they would install an outdoors public telephone soon near the Grange Hall on Johnson Street as requested. DEPARtmENT OF NATURAZ RESou.~CES: The Board was notified that $6,300 for insect and pest control and ~13,000 was granted *mw to combat Dutch Elm disease for the local tree department. JUROR FOR SUPERIOR (CRIMINIAL) COURT: ~ichard Delaney, 27~ Osgood Street, was drawn as a Juror for the Criminal Session of Superior Court which starts January 8, 1962, in Salem, Mass. POLICE CC~NDATION: Patrolmen Francis R. Hannay and Edward A. Manning won official commendation from the Selectmen for rescuing a lady from a snowbank as a train approached. The commendatlonwas~based on a letter from the ~rain's engineer, George V. Smith cf 164 Whitney ~venue, Portland,-Maine. He stated that the two policeme~ gave no thought to their own safety but quickly rescued the woman despite the threat of the approaching train. Selectman Finck motioned to give a c6py cf the letter to Chief Joseph W. Lawlor. BOSTCN & MAINE RAILROAD: Selectmen Finck also passed a motion, seconded by Mr. Sutclife~ that a letter of protest be sent~to the Boston & Maine R.R. Office pointing out that no woy cf access had been shoveilg~, through the he.ay?, snow~..all o?. th? .week end so that passengers could get to the depot. The. ~ letter will as~ ~ne ra~-roao to ~a~e corrective action and clear a path in future storms. I NN~ ~NGLAND TEL. & TEL. CO. & ~aRIMACK-~ ELECTRIC CO.: A hearing was set for 7:30, January 8, 1962, for two Joint pole locations on Sutton Street. The meeting was adjourned at 5:30 P.M. Alice N. Letarte, Clerk Secretary.
