APPLICATION FOR GASOLINE STORAGE: Lawrence Airport. This application for gasoline storage for use on equipment was tabled and se~ for a hearing on February 5, 1962 and referred to ~ief Daw for recommendation end investigation. Merrimack-Essex Electric Light Co.: Notice of installation of lights on Middlesex Street and Highland View Street was received. LAWRENCE GAS LIGHT COMPANY: Petition to excavate was approved be the Selectmen w~ich had already been accomplished due to mu emergency gas leak at Waverly Road, corner of Saltonstall Road, North Andover. A~NOLD SALISBURY, T~N COUNSEL: Re: Bradford St. vs Haverhill subdivision . Advised the Board that if the residents of Bradford Street were to be affected by any pro- posed residential development on the Haverhill line, official opposition should be voiced at the public hearing that will be h~ld in the City of Haverhill. ARNOLD SALISBURY, T0~N"COUNSEL: Re: Stonehouse Diner. After two y~ars a final decree:'was handed down by Superior Court ordering Howard end Sally B. Stonehouse to remove the empty and unused diner situated on land et the corner of Osgood St. and Great Pond Road in North Andover. This dining car was an acute eyesore end the cause of much concern to the Selectmen and the citizens of North Andover. The diner is to be removed ~nor before February 28, 1962. GEORGE %~ILSON, .DIRECTOR OF WELFARE: Re TB Sanatorium. Report on th.e Essex County ~uberculosis Hospital was submitted by Mr. Wilson end Miss Sherid Board of Health nurse. Stated that"the State Public Health could operate at a much lowor,, cost, with the same benefits to our Co~mmnity." DEPARTMENT OF CORPORATIC~S AND TAXATIC~: Snow removal. State approval for payment of the expenses of two snow emergencies amounting to $14,250.95 was received by the Board. ..A~.O B. REED; Engineers and Architects~' Request to keep the above firm in mind is eny new buildings such as schools, firestations, etc. ere proposed to be erected. GOVERNOR JOHN A VOLPE: illustrated report on the progress of the Massachusetts Highway Program, Route 49~, was re- ceived by the Board. ! DRAINAGE PROBLEM: Hemlock Street - Stahley- A report by Mr. Goodwin ~pr Mr. Cyr was submitted for the Board's perusal end approval. ~HONSON P.T.A.: Letter of appreciation. The Selectman were thanked in a letter for appearing on the Thomson P.T.A. panel end pre- semting such z comprehss~ive and constructive answers to their questions on town government and problems. STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS: ~41apter 90 allotments were sent to the Board for Salem Street and Maintenance. The sum of ,OO0. is the highest amount ever awarded the town. 5~E~NET -LACEY COMPLAINT; ittorney-Watmen presented a complaint that his client was not receiving any satisfaction and that Mr. Sweeney was not taking any corrective measures to rectify the nuisences involved, as he had'been instructed to do by Building Inspector, Charles Foster. Arnold Salisbury, Town Counsel was instructe8 by telephone to arrange a meeting between Mr. Foster, ~tmself end Attorney Watman to resolve the matter as soon as possible. He assured the secretary: Alice Letarte, that he would do so. PETITION: House Moving. An application for a hearing for the petition of Mrs. Annelia Aponovich, 60 Perry Street, North Andover, was received by the Board. The proposed petition is to move her house from 60 Perry Street to the Corner of Middlesex Street end Lyman Road. The following departments were notified to investigate all hazards and submit reports for the Nonday night Selectmen's meeting, January 29, 1962 when the hearing will be at ~:30 P.M.: Tree Warden, Fire ~ept., Police Department, Merrimack-Essex Electric Co,, New England ~el. & Tel. Co. TREE REMOVAL: Roger Chamberland A hearing was set for Monday, January 29th at 7:30 P.M. for the petition of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Chamberland, 242 Sutton Street, for re'oval of a tree in front of their house. Notlcef were made out and posted. Tree Warden was notified. 174 Januer~ 22, 1962. (continued) ~-~ COMPLAINT: Mr. John Cody Mr. John Cody of Turnpike Street complained that after every snow storm, snow plows de- posited huge amounts of snow on the corner of Turnpike andWaverly Road causing school children to enter the street with heavy traffic in order to board the school bus. State Board of Public Works was notified, Chief of Police and the local Highway department to take corrective measures at once. A report was requested from each department for next Mondayts meeting, January 29, 1962. POLIO DRIVE: Robert Driscoll was notified that the Board of Selectmen unanimously voted approval for the Veterans of Foreign War~ Mother's March on Polio to be held on January 31, 1962. Merrimack-Essex Electric Light Co: I The Hoard of Selectmen requested street lighting on Pole #1466 in front of David Rand's house, 280 Dale Street; at Mrs. Anthony Crudale's, corner of Sargent and Patriot Street,, right hand side; .]~ri-Rabs~ '657 Forest Street'-and on the corner of Heath P~ and Heath APPEAL: Town Reports The Selectmen urged all departments to submit thsir reports as soon as possible for the t2pist to have. CONGRESSMAN THOMAS J. LANE : Re Airport pla2Eround Further communication from'Mr. Lane stated he had made further queries and is expediting the Federal Aviation Agency approval as quickly as possible. A letter was sent to him thanking him for his current efforts in the matter and advising him that the Federal had to be secured before the Town Meeting in March or the appropriation for' the purchase of the playground land would be shelved. C~IEF JOSEPH WL LAWLOR: Chief of Police, Joseph W. Lawlor submitted his annual report for the year 1961. He and his or. ce were highly co~.ended by the Board of Selectmen for the fine record submitted and the ac~ of serious crime mn a large town this size% It speaks well of the respect afforded our po/ice department and of their own personal diligence and integrity. HEARINGS: Petition of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Chamberland, 242 Sutton Street, for removal.of tree in front of their home was granted unanimously upon Tree Warden's, Leo Eafond, recommendation that itbe removed. Petition to movers house from 60 Pe~ Street to the corner of Middlesex Street' and Lyman Road was granted to Mrs. Ane!lia Apanovich. The following conditions were announced by Chairman Finneran: The house is to be moved from 60 Perry Street, up Massachusetts Avenue to the corner of Middlesex and Lyman Road. The move is to be accomplished in one day; if this is not possible, prior, errangemants are to .be made with Chief of Police, Lawlor. One week's notice is to be given to the following prior to the moving: New England Tel. & Tel. CITY OF HAVERHILL= RE BRADFC~D STREET ABUTi'~S A letter received by the Board in answer.~to Chairman Finneran's inquiry re ,.a, housing devel- opment plan on the Bradford Street-Haverhill line stated that all abutters 9ould be duly notified if such a plan came into effect.
