MASSA51USETTS SELECTM~NS ASSO~ZATION:
Invitation to the Board was received to attend the annual meeting to be held in Provincetown,
Mass. on October 11, 12, and 13th.
APPLICATIC~S FOR POSITIC/I OF T0~N ACCOUNTANT:
Two applications were received by the Board for the position shortly to be available on October
1, 1962 for town accountant; N2ss Finn will reach the retirement age October 27th. Mrs. Celia
Sheehan, 98 Pleasant Street presently employed in that office and Miss Gladys Vanderbailt, 22
Dana Street submitted applications. Deadline is October 1,. 1962 for receipt of all applications
CAR DAMAGES:
Mr. Thomas Kelley, 23 Washington Avenue, Andover, Mass. appeared before the Board to inquiza
l about damages to his car because of a depression on Great Pond Road.

The regular meeting of the Board of selectmen was held on this date withChairmanFinneran
because cf the "Grippe". Selectmen'Raymond Broadheed and Fred P. Oakes were present with Mr.
Oakespreaiding as acting Chairman.
HEARING:
The application to store 2,000 gallons of gasoline underground at 8 Marblehead Street was denied
on recommendation, of Fire Chief James P. Daw. He was present and stated that he had told them
that before he could approve the petition they would have to clean up the debris on their premise
Up to the tine of the Selectmen's meeting, they had failed to c*~ply with his order and so he
recommended denial of the petition.
NIG~$AT~DEPT: State allotment of $18,016.10:
Carty, Superintendent of the Highway Dept-., stated that the above allotment would be used to
hard-top Greene Street. Prescott St~emt and the remainder of Johnson Street.
SA~ STREET:
Construction of Salem Street would be postponed until Spring according to an announcement from
District Highway Engineer ~ecause of the inconvenience of having the street impassable during
the winter months.
MASSACHUSETTS ELECTRIC COMPANY:
Letter received by the Board stated that street lights being removed because of Route 495 con-
struction would mean a saving to the town of approximately $600. The Selectmen requested a
survey be made of future street lighting in that area after Route 495 had been completed.
REQUEST: STREET LIGHT
Mr. Edward Locke, 55 Farnum Street, requested a street Light be installed in front o~ his house.
The.electric company was asked for a survey of same.
STATE DEPARTMENT OF P~BLIC WORES:
Once again, the Select~en instructed their secretary, Mrs. Alice M. Letarte, to request install-
ation of "Stop and Go" signal Lights with pedestrian control at the ccrmer of Main Street and
Chickering Road.. Also, 'once mcre, a request to smooth out the rough break-down land ~etwean
Charles's Steak House and western. Electric Company. Both would eliminate serious traffic
Senator Ruark, Congressmen Williams and Longworth were sent letters asking their support of the
petition.
SCHOOL C~OSSING G~n:.S APPOiNTNEITS: (Reserve)
Mrs. Elaine Brassenr, 31 Riverview Street, and Mrs. Florence Bush, a former reserve guard, of
Harold Street, were appointed reserve crossing guards, effective immediately; Selectman
Broadhead made the nomination and Acting Chairman Oakes seconded the motion making it a majority

SARGENT STREET MEMORIAL PLACQUE:
The Selectmen announced that A.D. Little Co. of Haverhill had been contacted to draw up a suit-
able placque to be placed on an appropriate pole on Sargent Street to replace the triangle mound
that was causing a traffic hazard and. was untended as a memorial.
COMPLAINT: Rand drainage.
David C. Rand, 26B~.Dale Street, appeared before the Board witha complaint concerning a culvert
which empties water on his property. Ira Carry, Highway Surveyor, will be contacted for
ive action and will be requested a report for Monday night's Selectmen's meeting, October 1,
