HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-01-28 Board of Selectmen MinutesPERSONNEL BOARD AND P~SqNNEL BOARD OF APPEALS: A conference will be in the Selectmen's Office on Monday, February 4, 1963 at 8:00 p.m. with the Board, Personnel Board and the Personnel Board of Appeals. The purpose of~ the meeting will~' be to activate the latter which has met only once since appointment. Zt will be determined on what status a petitioner can bring his alleged grievances before such a Board. STATE DEPT. OF PUBLIC WORKS: The tentative amounts slloted for Chapter 90 were sent by the above-m~ntioned department. The project is Salem Street.- $20,000.(State) $10,000 (Town) $10,000 (County) Maintenance : 1,O00.($tate) 2,000 (Town) .... As soon as action is taken at Town Meeting an attest copy of the town vote wilI be sent to the State Dept. of Public Works: DEPARTMENT OF CORPORATIONS AND TAXATIO~: Notice of approval for payment of snow emergency liabilities in the amount of $611~4.29. was received by the Board and referred to the Highway Dept. STATE DEPT. OF PUBLIC WORXS: Notice was received by this department that further tests are necessary for the i~stallation of "Stop" signs at three intersections. Two se~$ of blue prints, numerous correspgndence and state approval have been received in the past from the State for this matter, but more red tape seems be required before we can install the necessary signs pending for some time. The matter was re- ferred to the Chief of Police, J. W. Lawlor. Ci¥~L. DEFENSE: Civil Defense Director, D. Dyer, will be asked to meet with the Board Monday evening' to discuss the necessity cf his request that .unexpended appropriations for Civil Defanse be carried forward to the new year. RESIGNATI~: The resignation of the town building Janitor, Harold Shapcott, was received with regret and a letter was ~dtrected to be sent to him to that effect. · SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE: A request from the School B~ilding Committee was received re articles to be inserted in the Town Warrant for the .laying out of Beacon Bill Boulevard from Mass. Ave. to the Upper Elementary School building.property line asa public way and laying out Bay State Road from Mass. Ave. to the~ Elementary School Building property line as a public way. ' TOWN YARD COMMITTEE: A report was submitted by the above-named committee showing that an excellent ~ppLication had given to the acute problems of town garaging and a new Police Station. Two articles were in the Town Warrant for: 1. ~ sufficient sum of money to be raised an appropriated for ary plans and survey for a Town Yard and Police Station. 2, That sufficient sums be raised for purchase of land now owned by John Murphy for above project. PROCLAMATIONS: Chairman Finneran proclaimed February 7-13th, Boy Scout Week and National Brotherhood Week from February 17 - 24th after communications were received from same. TOWN TREASURE~ REPORT: Mr. James Make¥, Town Treasurer submitted his annual report. Alice M. Letarte, Secretary. The Town Warrant was declared closed at 9:00 p.m. Over 118 Articles were submitted to the Sel- ectmen for approval. Nomination papers dead-line was 5:00 p.m. and the Selectmen will remain un- opposed. The meeting adjourned at g:h~ p.m.~~C~K ~l~erk~
