HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-06-03 Board of Selectmen MinutesThe regular meeting of the Board of Selectmon was held on this date with all members present, Selectmen Fred P. 0akes. Raymond Broadhead with Chairman Finneran presiding. TOWN YARD SURVEY COMMITTEE: The Selectmen requested the above-named committee to discuss and advise on the following: 1. The furtherance of plans for a T~wn Yard and a Town Garage. Art. 38. $2,000. appropriated. 2. The furtherance of the purchasing of the Murphy Building and land next to the Fire Station for a Police Station and the requirements needed for same. 3. The feasibility, approximate cost, in due time of haveing a town maintenance department with a town mechanic. 1 4. Any other improvements that this committee deems advisable for any town departments or buildings..o£ Or for the town. GAS INSPECTOR: Mr. M;~Bootm~a~Gas Ymspector, submitted to the Board for their approval a list of Rules and Regulations governing fees re installation of gas piping and gas appliances. The Board will study and refer them to Town Counsel who will send his recommendations as soon as amendment to the bill is approved by the State. An invitation for ground-breaking '6~remonies at Lawrence ~&l Hospital was received. The Board will make every effort to attend on June 21, 1963. LAWRENCE GAS CO.: A petition to excavate 16 feet on 40 Pembrook Rd. for installation of a gas service by the Board. INVITATION: The Board received an invitation to attend the Annual celebration of the Air ·Force Reserve. They will make every effo2t to attend. NATI~AL FLAG WE~: A proclamation was made announcing the week of June 9-15th be National Flag Week. . RECEIVED: A copy of contract agreement for highway work on sectionof Salem Street. BUII~ING INSPECTOR: Charles Foster, Building Inspector, reports that he had issued local permit to install sign, "Aqua S~imming Poools" and submitted same to State Board for approval. MASSAchUSETTS E~ECTRIO LIGHT COMPANY: The Board requested a survey of improved street lighting on Elmcrest Road; also requested a street light be installed on a pole at the corner of Woodbrtdge Rd. and Greene St. C~IEF LAWLOR: The Board requested that Chief of Police, Joseph W. Lawlor, make a survey of Middlesex and Pilgrim Streets, Lyman Road and any other streets he deemed necessary for possible speed zoning. The Board would like his recommendations on the installing of signs reading, "~o Children" and .,'Thickly Settled" to curb the speed~Ug on cars on Middlesex Street.. SIDN~ALK BAZAAR: The North Andover.~Board of Trade are sponsoring a ~tdewalk Bazaar on June 7th and 8th with town officials serving in the capacity of salesmen in the various stores. Ira Certy will be the official greeter of the town. RECREATIONAL COUNCIL: Bill McEvoy, Recreational 'Chairman, announced that the playgrounds would open Nonday, July 1, closing after 8 Seeks on Aug 23, 1963. The instructors chosen from 53 applicants were as follows: Eathleen Scanlon, Supv., C. Thibanlt, Po Steele, L. ~ea, G. McDonald, P. Cotter, and N. Medici, Ri Parker, W. Robinson, S. Letarte, B. Allen,S. summe'rs and Harry Wilkinson, with substitute instructors, J. Summers. R. Taylor, B. Kennedy and L. ~hite. STREET SIG~S: Thirty street signs approved by the Board of Selectmen and Chief of Police were ordered and will be installed when received by the Police Dept.
