HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-12-09 Board of Selectmen MinutesThe regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on this date ~rith Selectmen Raymond Broedheed, Fred P. Oakes and Chairman William A. Finneran, presiding. J~ROR: James H. Black, 470 Main Street, an engineer, was chosen to sit on the Jury the '13th of January at the Superior Criminal Court in Salem. HEARING: The application of M.A. Public Schools to store $5 fuel oil underground was approved by the Board HEARING: The application of Atlantice Refining Co. to store #2 fuel oil underg~oun~ on Osgood Street was Ittabled for one week for further consideration of the Board. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Hughes, and Mr. lliam Chepulis, abutters, wmre present and gave lengthy objections to the erection of a service ation at that location. The Airport Commission stated that they had no objection. JOINT POLE LOCATIOn: A petition of the N.E. Tel. & Tel. ~o.& Mass. Electric Co. for a joint pole location on 'Mtddle~ Street was granted by the Board. LAWRENCE GAS CO.: Petitions were approved to excavate on the following streets: Salem St., Mass. Ave. opposite Commonwealth Ave., Lot 64 Sutton Hill Rd., and Magnolia Drive. STRF~T LIGHT: A request from J. M. Nemecek, 50 G!enncrest Drive, North Andover, Mass. for a ~street light to be installed on pole no. 4809 on Glenncrest Drive was referred to the electric company for a survey. C[~NDATION: FIRE DEPT. The Board received a letter of appreciation from the Commanding Officer of the U.S. Coast Guard in Lawrence for the fine cooperation received from Chief Daw and the membars~of the M.A. Fire Dept. for their assistance with their training '~rogrsm. B .& M.RAISROAD: PROTEST The Board voted to send a strong letter of protest,(copies going to the D.P.U. and Mayor Buckleyl to the B. & Maine R.R. to their proposal to curtail commuter and passenger service to North And- and surrounding areas. LAW. AIRPORT LAND: The Selectmen received an affer from the Airport Commission re purchase of 4 acres of land on Sutton St. adjoining ~harles Steak House for $12,000.00. The Knights of Col~bus wish to purchase same but the T~wn of North Andover have choice of acquisition. The offer was referred to Town ~Cognsel requesting advice as to whether the purchase could be made out right or must it be processed through Town Meeting. DONATION: Notice was received by the Board that the N. Berger CO., 2 Franklin St., Lawrence, Mass. had donated a gift to the Beverly School for the Deaf in the name of the Town of North Andover. g~anious gift will be acknowledged. HIGH SGHOOL DISTRICT: Notice was received of the 33rd meeting of the technical high school committee. The mmeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m. Alice M. Letarte, Secretary.
