HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-12-16 Board of Selectmen MinutesDecember 16, 1963 The regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on this date with Selectmen Broadhead~ Oakes and Chairman Finneran presiding. TO~N WARRANT: Towz Warrant was declared opened December 16, 1963, at 8:44 p.m. for insertion of: Articles in Annual Town Meeting and will close January 13, 196h~ at 9:00 p.m. HEARING: A joint pole location petition for Salem Street was granted unanimously. ATLANTIC REFINING COMPANY' APPLICATION: A favorable decision was handed down on the petition to store #2 fuel oil underground on Osgood Street. TRAFFIC HAZARD: DR. GEORGE ROBERTSON: A request was received by the Board that they contact the State Authorities relhaving dotted,.. traffic lines in front of his house on 1070 Turnpike Street, changed to solid lines to prevent cars from passing a% a high rate of speed. The passing cars create a seitous danger, to persons going ~n~o and coming out of Dr. Robertson~s driveway. On ndmerous occasions, near accidents have been the case. The Board voted to contact Harold F. MacWilliams, Danvers, Mass. at once. 'SUTTC~ STREET LAND - AIRPORT: The Board voted to instruct' Francis A. Jones, Secretary, Lawrence Airport Commission, that~ the>' Town was not interested in purchasing the four acres of land on Sutton Street, bordering Charles Steak House, at .the particular price offered,($12,000.O0) in their letter ~o the Selectmen on . December 6, 1963~ A letter from Mr. Duffy, Board of Public Works, stated that they wer~ not in terested in acquiring the land. LAWR~CE. GAS O0.: ' Petitions to excavate on Trinity Court and 346 Sutton Street were granted by the Board. DEPT. 'OF,PUBLIC WORKS: · The State notified the Board that a sum of $12,O16.10 from Chapter 822, Acts of. 1963 would be ~...'.made available .to the town and should go through the usual channels in an Article for Town'Meet- ,i. ~ing in March. Highway Dept. was instructed .to determine the streets to benefit and the Board ' of Selectmen will draw up the necessary Article for Town Warrant. CHAPTER ( )90 Salem St.: Estimate of Workddone on contract for Salem Street was received by the Board and forwarded to the Highway Dep%. 'STATE DEPT~ ~ PUBLIC 'W~ was received of. the road repair allotment for 1964 which is the same amoun~ ~a~ast. year, ,016.10. Co. ex- plaining that the sixteen trains daily operating from Boston to North Andover would be 'curtail. ed to eight trains daily during the week of~ Jan. ~th ~to' 12th, 1964 for commuter experimentatio~ acne~-,e w~a De madrigal, ned. This letter was in answer to one sent ~r the Board on Decomb~ll in protest of curtailment of commmter passenger service. MASSACHUSETTS ELECTRIC 00.: The Board voted to request a survey be mad e for improved street lighting on Sutton Hill Road beginning at pole 3489 continuing towards Ohestnut Street. Also requested, increased lighting on poles situated at the corner of Marblehead and Union Streets amd the corner of ~everely and Union Streeta.
