HOOPER BUS COMPLAINT: A letter received from the Building Inspector, Charles Foster, Jr., advised the Board that he could see no way' that the Selectmen comld grant an extension of time to the Hoopers for storage of the unregistered bus on their property at 1500 Salem Street. Gh December 30, 1~68, the Building Inspector sent a letter to the Hoopers informing them that the bus was illegally stored on their property. After 40 days, the matter has not been resolved, the Hoopers have not removed the bus. Any fence that would be high enough to screen the bus would exceed the legal limit of 6 ft. imposed by the Massachusetts Commissioners. Repairs · made on the bus woul violate the town Zoning law which prohibit automobile repairing in residential areas. Mr. Foster concluded that he was strongly opposed to any action by the Selectmen that would allow this bus to remain on the property of Nr. Hooper or upon any other ~esidentially zoned land in the town. The Board of Selectmen unanimously voted to send a copy of the Building Inspector's letter to Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Hooper enclosed with a letter of their own which would notify them that said bus must he removed immediately from their property in compliance with the Town's Junk car By-Law, Art~ III, Sec. 9, (a copy had been sent previously to the Hooper's of the By-Law) Missile Site: Several residents from the missile site area conVened in the Selectmen's Office during the meeting with several protests and complaints. Chiefly among the complaints was the uncer- rainy about the Federal government's plans for the site. The people present wanted to know about the water and sewerage installations planned for the site. Superintendent Duffy, Sr. stated that the Army Engineers had called of the meeting with the town's Public Works Dept. to discuss this matter, as a result, no agreement had been made to date. The citizens requested a hearing with the Army Personnel responsible for the missile site development in order to have their many questions answered. They stated that when they questioned the personnel working on the site, their questions were either sidestepped or totally ignored. One person remarked that the Board should have more knowledge of the government's plans. Atty. Duffy replied that the Federal government had Jurisdiction over any town government officials; that the government had not informed them on any future plans for the site; that the Board could mot take a stand until they knew what the federal government had in mind for the site. Chairman Kirk, when asked what his stand was~he replied that he had not determined whether he was for the missile site or not because of the lack of information given the Selectmen. Most information was filtered through articles in the newspaper; articles which were released by the government without bothering to send notification to the Board. Mr. Duffy szat~cUthat all petitions received from town citizens were forwarded to Congressman Bates and Congress. He further added that the Board would make every effort to clarify the 'situation as they have been endeavoring to do eve~.~ since the missile site matter began.
