HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-03-22 Board of Selectmen Minutes362 22 The regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on this date with Selectman Joseph A. Guthrie and Chairman Arthur P. Kirk present. Selectman William B. Dully, Jr. was absent. TOWN EEETING ACTION: The Board received a summary of T owu Meeting Action that concerned the Board from Town Clerk. Concerning Articles 58 and 59, the Board voted to advertise for bids on two, new police cars. Bids to be opened ou April 5, 1971, at 7:30 P.M. At the request of the Chief of Police, the Board voted to send letter to Civil Service requesting an examination be set up for the Sergeant's position. LAWRENCE-NO. ANDOVER BOUNDARY LINE: Notification from Town Counsel sent a petition necessary to expedite the legi~'lat~'onc~6f '~the new Lawrence-North Andover bounday line to be signed by the Board and returned to him. WATER SAFETY CouRSE: A notice received from the American ~ed Cross re water safety instructor courses was referred to the Public Works and the School Depm. for distribution. GAS EXCAVATION :~- A~proved was a petition to excavate on Stevens Street to renew gas services. CHAPTER 90 - SALEM STREET: County Engineer sent copy of release re Salem Street work %o the Board. M. instead of the original] date oof April 5th. "The nine-member committee was so notified. LICENSING CONEISSIONERS: A letter from Town Counsel re Christine Smith's application £6r a Sunday license advised the · Board that as she was selling domestic pets she did.not require a license to be .open on Sunday at her North Andover Acquarium ou 14 Main Street. A copy of Mr. Saltsbury's.letter was sent to Mre. Smith. CA~TIVAL: The North Andover Jaycees appeared before the Board requesting permission to hold a 'Carnival from April~ 5 to April lOth to raise money for their projects. The Board gave their approval subject to Chief Lawlor's o.k. and requested that the Carnival operators submit a certificate of rsponsibility with the required insurance. No fees were charEed by the town. Messina's Market proprietor gave permission to have the Carnival on the Shopping Plaza grounds. TOWN APPOINTMENTS: - Appointments made annually by the Board will take place on Narch 29, 197~. Secretary was directed to prepare list due for appointments and to list applications that are received.
