HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-02-07 Board of Selectmen Minutes 404 FEBRUARY 7. 1972. The Board of Selectmen held their regular meeting on this date with all members present; Sel- ectmen Joseph A. Guthrie, William B. Duffy, Jr. with Chain~an Arthur P. Kirk presiding. The warrant and minutes were approved as submitted. SNO~! R~MOVAL EMERUENCY DECLARED, FEBRUARY 3, 1972, at 8:00 A.M. STREET LIGHT REQUESTS: The Board voted to request a street light survey be made, vicinity of Philip Sullivan residence, 66 Jay Road and Griglack residence, 32 Essex Street. ADDED STREET LIGHT COST: A letter from John Pare, Mass. Electric Co., advised the Board of the increase in the cost of the underground street light installation on 39 Sutton Place. WARRANT ARTICLES WITHDRAWN: The Board approved a request from Atty. John J. Willis, Jr. to withdraw without prejudice, two Zoning articles from the Town Warrant. TROMBLY BUS ACCESS REQUEST: The Board received a letter from Francis Trombly, President of Trombly Notor Coach Service, requesting an access to be built for the flow of bus traffic to and from his garage on Rt. 125, intersection of Eillside Road. The Board voted to refer the request to Chief Lawlor for his comments and recommendations on the subject matter. CML DEFENSE DIRECTOR: The Board filed a letter from John Coco, Civil Defense Director, indicating his interest for reappointment to the po.,ition for the ensuing year. The Board commented that he had done a fine Job as Director. GR. LAWRENCE SANITARY DISTF~TCT COMMISSION: The Board unanimously reappointed John L. Finneran as the North Andover Representative to the above-named Commission. His term will be for two years, effective January 14, 1972. The Board stated that he had done a good job representing the town on this difficult district. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE MAPS: The Board voted to participate in the Chamber of Commerce Program to print maps of the Gr. Lawrence Community; cost to the town, $500.00. AMERICAN ANBULANCE SERVICE, INC. A letter from Ronald A. Pick of the above-named company contained a request for a meeting with the Board to discuss private ambulance service to the town. The Board voted to refer the letter to F ire Chief Daw requesting his recommendations on the course theSelectmen should take in this matter. JUROR: Selectman Guthrie drew the name of Nary A. Pelliccione, 95 Colgate Drive, to serve at Lawrence Superior Court at the March 6 Sitting. TOWN BUILDING CLEANING: John Lyons, Town Clerk, stated that the building needed the services of a full-time Janitor that the building was continually dirty, men and ladies' rooms uncleaned, dust every where. The Board voted to have Jack Erle and the Town Clerk look into the matter and recommend whether to have a contract cleaner ar a janitor. ~-'~ REPORTS RECEIVED: From County Commisioners re Town's assesments to Essex County Retirement System. LICENSING CONNIS~IO~: The Board~appr6ve.d'a Cdmmon.Victualer application for renewal at Mr. Donu~ Shop, Nain St. TheI Board also'~g~an, ted'a Clas's II license to S.Joseph Fiori for his garage on 1615 Osgood Street, North Andov~r, l~s. The Board vdted to 'deny the application for renewal of the Class II license of George Farkas., same .loc~tiq'~ .~their .decision was based on the fact that the actual operator of the .premises is 'S..Jo~'eph Fiori. Mr. Farkas' application did not satisfy the requirements necessary fo~' granting the license to him. DOGS AT SCHOOL'AREAS: Tom McEvoy appeared before the Board to ask if anything could be done about the many dogs that congregate at the Thomson and Kittredge Schools. The Board voted to authorize the Chairman to contact Chief Lawl6r to be advised of the whole story on the situation. TRANSPORTATION & CONSTRUCTION MEETING: Chairman Kirk and Jack Erle attended the above-named meeting at Merrimack. Mr. Kirk reported that the meeting was quite informative, that they were told that North Andover was high on the Topics Program list for their traffic safety control Alice M.
