Invitation received to Nemcrial Day Observance from American Legion and Veterans ~f Foreign
Chairman Guthrie stated that he would attend and he encouragedJother Selectmen to also try to
attend.
FIRE DEPAF~NENT SERVICE:
Letter received from David Bevin, 25S Forest Street coemending Fire Department Ambulance servic
Letter will be forwarded to Chief Daw.
ERA ~2~PLOYEES:
Tree Warden Leo Lafond a~d Library Director, Louise King, appeared before the Board to protest
the directive they had received which requires that their EEA employees be paid out of Town
ifunds after July 1, 1973. Lafond contended that he would be unable to obtain Civil Service
status for his employee by July 1st. Mrs. King said she had budgeted for her employee after
August. (Both Lafond and King were alerted by letter in January to be prepared to pay these
employees out of Town funds after July 1st. ) The subject was taken under consideration with
Lafond to repor~ hack in two weeks and Mrs. King to write a letter asking for an extension of
time.
GRAVES REGISTRATION OFFICEE:
A letter was received from Allen Gesing, Graves Registration Officer, explaining his duties.
He wa~ reappointed by the Board, an unanimous vote.
RECREATION DIEECTOR:
William McEvoy, Recreation Director,met briefly with the Board. It was agreed to reappoint
nine (9) members to the Recreation Council. NcEvoy will meet with Selectmen at a working meet-
ing on June 14th, date to be verified by letter.
INSPECTOP~:
Inspectors, Charles Foster, Mitchell Bootman, John Thompson and Vincent Landers met with
Selectmen to discuss the working arrangements with full time Building Inspec~tor, ¢. Foster.
It was agreed that Foster's office will attempt to coordina~ ~11 Inspectorfs~activities and
would collect all Inspector' s fees. //

The Board of Selectmen held their regular meeting on this date with all members present;
ISelectmen Joh~ F. Ooady, John P. Kirk with Chairman Joseph A. Guthrie presiding. The
warrant and minutes were approved as submitted.
INVITATIONS:
Invitations were received by the Board to attend the Youth League baseb-ll season opening,
Sunday, Nay 20 and to the V.F.W. Joint installation, Nay 26, at 7 p.m. Chairman Guthrie
will attend both functions and Selectmen Coady and Kirk will make every effort to attend.
PEDESTEIAN OVERPASS:
Chairman G~thrie stated that a letter had been sent to Narvin W. Miller, Vice-President of
Pavlo wngincering Co. advising Mr. Miller that the Board had selected Scheme I plan for the
pedestrian overpass for the new High School. As advised by Mr. Miller, if the Board chose
Scheme I, instead of Scheme II and III, they could save four months in construction time and
the overpass would be completed in time for the September school opening, hopef,,lly. The
Board voted unanimously to confirm the selection of Scheme I.
BICENTENNIAL COMMISSION:
The Board were advised by letter of the new location of the Mass. Bicentennial Commission and
introduced their new field representative, Mrs. Nary M. Herbert. Copies of this letter will
be sent to the N. A. Historical Commission and to the Jay Oees.
SPECIAL TOWN MEETING PETITIONS:
The Board was presented with a petition from Mr. Thomson containing two articles to call a
Special Town Meeting. Mr. Thomson was advised that the names on the petition would be sub-
mitred to the Board of Registrars for verification and the two articles we,,11 be referrrsd
to Town Counsel for his coements and recommendations. Until these two procedures are satis-
factorily concluded, no Special Town Meeting would be called.
The School Building Committee sent a letter listing items totalling $130,000. to be included
in any future Special Town Neeting. The Board voted to schedule a meeting with the Selectmen ,
Advisory Board and the School Building Committee regarding the proposal.
00MMENDAT I ON:
The Board received a letter from the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission commending John J.
Monterio for services rendered while Chairman of the NVPC. Commendation will be placed on file.
ELECTRICAL & GAS RATES:
New rates submitted by John J. Thompson, Wiring Inspector, and Mitchell P. Bootmand, Gas Inspec-
tor, were approved by the Board.
