Chairman Guthrie received and acknowledged the certified list of names but, until re- quested recommendations are received from Town Counsel re the legality of the articles submitted,'the Board voted to delay scheduling aSpocialTownMeeting. POPPY DAY: A representative of the V.E.W. and the American Legion appeared before the Board to request permissionto hold their annual Poppy Days ohM ay 25 through'{Nay 28th, inclusive, for the benefit of the two groups. Permission was granted By the Board. l~Z~r ING: The Board ~ted to hold their regular meeting next week on Tuesday, May 29th, at 7:30 p.m. as Monday is Memorial Day. The Board also discussed the summer schedule which, in past years, have the Selectmen meeting every other Monday beginning in June. LICENSING COMMISSIONERS: The Board received an application for license to store gasoline .~u~erground.~from Mobil Oil Corp., 12 Mess. Avenue. Letarte, Secretary ~ ~r~ k ~ ler The Board of Selectmen held their regular meeting du~his date with all members present; Selectmen Coady and Xirk, Chairman Guthrie presiding. The warrant and minutes were. approved as submitted. GAS EXCAVATIONS: Petitions were approved to e~avate on Turnpike St., Mill St., and Rt. 125 to install gas mains. Police officers required. SPECIAL TOWN MEETING: Town Counsel's letter on Special Town Meeting petition was taken under advisement. Board voted to communicate with Joseph Borgesi requesting a report by June 4 as to the committ- ment the l~lic Works had made on monies appropriated at 1973 Town Meeting ($15,000.) and the $3630. included in the Public Works b-~let for flouridation of town water. NO PA~ING - PA~K ST. The Board approved request from Chief Lawlor that No Parking restrictions be enfoxced on the southwesterly side of Park Street, from Main and Park St. ~o Chicksring.l~ad. To be advertised · TOWN COUNSEL AUTHORITY: The Board approved the following authority for Town Counsel: 1) Town'Counsel shall not, without the prior authorization of the Selectmen, initiate any legal proceedings in behalf of the Town, or of any of its officers, agents, committees ~or. Boards. 2 i' Until some further order of the Selectmen to thee contrary, Town Counsel is hereby authorized and directed to enter his appearance, to file all necessary pleadings, and otherwise to act as the attorney for the Town, or any of its officers, agents, committees or boards, in any litigation in which it or they may be named as parties respondent. PEDESTRIAN OVERPASS: Discussion of the pedestrian overpass for the new High School revealed that it could possibly be completed by October of this year. The Board voted to contact the State Dept. of PuBlic Works to ensure the construction of a fence to be erected between the High and Rt.' 125 before start of school in September. STR~i~' RESU~FACING: A letter received from the Highway Surveyorlisted streets to be resurfaced. The Board voted to,rite to the Dept. of PublicWorksinDanvers re the proposed reconstruction of streets under Chapter 90. GREATER LAWRENCE DRUG COUNCIL, INC.: A letter received from the Gr. lawrence ~ommunity Drug Council executive director, Pay Tague, requested that the North Andover storefront continue to be available together with the present talephone arrangement. They informed the Board that they would fund R. Naker' s-~ary from June 2 to June 30, 1973. They intend to solicit applications for the position of Storefront Director to service the North Andover community which R. Maker may apply for. The telephone to be listed, "North AndoverStorefront." The Board voted to approve both requests.
