HIG~AY SURVEYOR- ~,mRP~3~CK it~¥F~ Letter received from the Highway Surveyor contained information relative to gaining access to Merrimack River land for future access. He stated that, in the past, town officials had been negligent in not having the foresight to make simple decisions on opportunities when they arise. He stated he had been in conference with Congressman Harrington re a possibility of State or Feders~ Assistance and arranged a meeting with Atty. Ford, legal counsel for the Gr. Lawrence Sanitary District who said he would bring the matter to the attention of the committee at their next meeting. Selectman Guthrie stated that, although the Highway Surveyor was doing a good Job for his department, he should leave Selectmen's matters to the Selectmen...if he wanted to take on their responsibilities, he should run for Select~n. The matter of. any land-taking for the town should be referred to the Board; it was not under the Highway Sur- veyor's Jurisdiction; that it also required Town Moeting action under an Article submitted by the Selectmen and that he resented Mr. Cyr's action taken before consulting with the Board. He requested the Chairman to meet with Atty. Ford to discuss the matter. It was so voted.
